STAC Report: Performance of 3Forge AMI
Charts of 2 million data points in 3.67 seconds

STAC recently tested a realtime data visualization platform from 3Forge called AMI. The STAC Report is available here.
This was STAC's first time running tests that relied in part on display output. Human analysis is still important in finance, and firms tell us that supporting visualization of realtime, streaming data throughout the enterprise is an ongoing challenge.
The "stack under test" (SUT) consisted of the AMI engine running on a Linux server with just 8 cores, plus a browser-based display on a Windows box.
While streaming 25,000 simulated trade messages (700,000 database fields) per second into the SUT, we measured two things using video capture and timestamp logs: 1) query response times and 2) data freshness (how long it took an inbound record to appear in query results). When ingest was over, we also measured how fast the system could return a chart of a very large dataset.
Key results include:
- Moderately sized queries completed in an average of 317 milliseconds during ingest, which was less than 50 milliseconds longer than without ingest.
- During ingest, the delay between an event arriving at the system and appearing as a result in request/response queries averaged 149 milliseconds.
- With ingest complete, the system took an average of 3.67 seconds to return a chart containing 2 million data points.
