STAC Report: kdb+ 3.1 with HGST FlashMAX II on IBM x3750 M4

Performed better in 13 of the 17 response-time benchmarks than the next best system with flash storage, four Sandy Bridge CPUs, and kdb+ 3.1.

13 June 2014 - New York

As a follow-up to a report in the STAC Vault several months ago, STAC has just released audited STAC-M3 Benchmark results of a solution consisting of Kx Systems kdb+ 3.1 on an IBM x3750 M4 server with four 8-core Intel Xeon E5-4650 CPUs and 6 x 2.2TB PCIe FlashMAX II storage devices from HGST. The report can be accessed here.

Compared to the public results from systems using flash storage with the same server/RAM/CPU setup and kdb+ 3.1, this system performed better in 13 out of the 17 response-time benchmarks, including:

  • 52% faster in the market snap benchmark (STAC-M3. ß1.10T.MKTSNAP)
  • 24%-45% faster in the multi-user intervalized statistics benchmarks (STAC-M3.ß1.[10T/50T/100T].STATS-UI)
  • 33% faster in the aggregated statistics benchmark (STAC-M3.ß1.10T.STATS-AGG)

Qualified members of the STAC Benchmark Council can access the Configuration Disclosure here.

Qualified subscribers may also request to inspect or run the STAC-M3 Pack for kdb+ 3.1 (the q and k code for the kdb+ implementation) here.
