Speaker Biographies – Asia, Fall 2019

Srihari Angaluri, Principal Architect – Data Center and Cloud Solutions, Lenovo.
Srihari worked for over 20 years in the technology industry in leading software and solutions development for high-performance computing in education, government, financial services, and other industries. While at IBM he was instrumental in bringing many first-time solutions to the market such as the SAP business warehouse accelerator (a precursor to SAP HANA) and the IBM Video grid solution, a scale-out media storage and on-demand content distribution platform. Srihari currently leads the technical strategy around modern applications development leveraging new infrastructure capabilities, the Cloud, containers and microservices, automation, DevOps, and AI and machine learning techniques. He has multiple issued patents and publications. Srihari has a Masters degree in Computer Science and MBA from Duke university.

Dr John Ashley, Director, Global Financial Services Strategy, NVIDIA.
John currently leads the Global Financial Services Industry Strategy team at NVIDIA. Previously at NVIDIA, he started and led the Professional Services Deep Learning Practice and the Deep Learning Professional Services Partner program. He has managed the relationship with IBM’s Software and Cognitive groups, was a Senior Solutions Architect covering Financial Services based in New York and then London, and supported NVIDIA’s work with the Square Kilometer Array radio astronomy programs. He holds a doctorate in Computational Sciences and Informatics, and both BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering. He holds a US Patent in predictive analytics for home mortgage valuation.

Charmaine Athaide, Regional Business Development Director, USAM Group (speaking for Levyx).
Charmaine is a trusted advisor to her clients, with nearly 15 years of experience connecting financial institutions with technology solutions and services that drive business results. Her previous positions with authoritative regulatory and banking intelligence providers have added to her deep understanding of the Asian fintech ecosystem, which informs the successful go-to-market approaches she develops and executes for innovative firms in the sector.

Frances Chien, Corporate Advisory Engineer, Dell.
Frances is a CAE (Corporate Advisory Engineer) for Dell EMC UDS (Unstructured Data Solution, including the scale-out NAS Isilon and the object storage ECS), responsible for GC (Greater China including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and China) territories. Before Dell EMC, she used to work for IBM, Fujitsu, Lenovo and has more-than-13 years IT Infrastructure industry experience in total. Frances’ familiar with various solutions, from storage’s perspective, including AI (ML/DL), Big Data (Hadoop), EDA, Life Science (NGS), Healthcare, Media and Entertainment, Surveillance, Modern Application Development and many others.

Laurent de Barry, Founder & Managing Director, Enyx.
Laurent co-founded Enyx in 2011 at the age of 23 and holds 10 years of experience developing ultra low latency technology. As Managing Director of Enyx’s trading solutions, Laurent leads product and technology strategy, while overseeing the development of the next generation FPGA-enabled trading solutions. An electrical and computer science engineer by training, Laurent is passionate about high performance computing and bringing cutting-edge technology to market. Prior to co-founding Enyx, he worked on critical hardware components for the aeronautical and military industries.

Dr Michel Debiche, Director of Analytics Research, STAC.
Michel is both quant and technologist, whose passion is making data science actually work for financial firms. He is currently leading the expansion of the STAC community to include more buyside firms looking to leapfrog to the best technologies and Analytics Ops processes for quant/quantamental investing. Prior to STAC, Michel re-engineered strategy development and implementation at numerous firms, first as a quant, then as a consultant. Employers include CSFB, Daiwa, First New York, CIBC, and Think Big Analytics, where he led the financial services practice. Michel has BS, MS, and PhD degrees in geophysics from Stanford and Princeton Universities.

Javier Diaz, COO, Seven Solutions.
Javier obtained a PhD in Electronics in 2006, the title of Electronic Engineer in 2002 and the Bachelor Degree in Physics in 2000. In addition to being Associate Professor at University of Granada, he is co-founder of Seven Solutions, CEO from 2012-2018 and COO since 2019. He has been co-founder of another start-up company (SYME) and previously worked as Engineer at Infineon Technologies in Munich (Germany). He has coordinated projects with companies such as INDRA Sistemas, Schneider Electric and Scientific institutions such as CERN. Javier has many years of expertise in leading international collaboration projects.

Barry Dropping, Associate Director, Product Line Management, Microchip.
Barry is a 30 year veteran in the synchronization and timing field. He has held leadership positions with Hewlett-Packard, Symmetricom and Microsemi prior to acquisition by Microchip in 2018. His background spans marketing, engineering and operations management, and he holds a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology from the DeVry Institute. In his current position as Associate Director of Product Line Management at Microchip, he is responsible for industry leading synchronization and timing system solutions for telecommunications, enterprise, and military/aerospace markets.

Qingli Gao, Head of APAC Electric Market Support & E-solutions, BNP Paribas.
Qingli currently leads infrastructure teams including networking, system and market data team across APAC region for BNP Paribas. He is responsible for the overall operation of the domain e-Solutions for Automatic Market Making business. Qingli has rich knowledge on trading system architecture and latency reduction technologies. For the last 15 years he has run positions at NASDAQ, Blackrock and Susquehanna International Group (SIG) in the united states, which covered both trading client and exchange sides designs. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, Qingli has been leading the innovation efforts for NASDAQ’s next generation trading platform.

Dr Matthew Grosvenor, VP Technology, Exablaze.
Matthew is VP of Technology at Exablaze. He's been working with the Exablaze family of companies for over 8 years. In that time, he has been involved in trading strategy development, market data acquisition, FPGA acceleration, systems optimisation, and measurement and analytics. Matthew holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge. His research work focused on techniques for managing and mitigating latency variance in hyper-scale datacenter networks. He continues to publish widely in the fields of big-data, hyperscale datacenters, networks, latency and network measurement.

Peter Lankford, Founder & Executive Director, Securities Technology Analysis Center.
Peter leads STAC®, which provides hands-on technology research and testing tools to the finance industry and facilitates the STAC Benchmark Council™, a group of leading financial institutions and vendors that engages in technical dialog and specifies standard ways to assess technologies used in finance. Prior to STAC, Peter was SVP of the $240M market data technology business at Reuters. Prior to Reuters, Peter held management positions at Citibank, First Chicago Corp., and operating-system maker IGC. Peter has an MBA, Masters in International Relations, and Bachelors in Chemistry from the University of Chicago.

Richard Leung, Group Chief Technology Officer, HKEX.
Mr Leung joined HKEX in October 2011 and is currently the Group Chief Technology Officer. In his position, Mr Leung is responsible for the technology strategy and operations in Hong Kong, London and the Mainland. He leads the technology effort across the Group to ensure the development and operations efforts are coordinated and the engagement with the vendors is optimised. Mr Leung has worked with exchange and financial sector technology over the past three decades. Prior to joining HKEX, he was the Chief Technology Officer for Chi-X Global. Mr Leung joined Chi-X Global in conjunction with Chi-X Global’s 2008 acquisition of Cicada. Prior to joining Cicada, Mr Leung held a 14-year career with Dow Jones Telerate in the Asia Pacific region, where he served in various senior technical positions.

Cliff Maddox, Director of Sales, NovaSparks.
Cliff has been working in the finance industry for the past 30 years. For the past year he has been focused on helping prop shops, hedge funds and banks upgrade their infrastructure using NovaSparks ultra-low latency market data solutions. Prior to that he spent 8 years at ACTIV Financial where he expanded their presence throughout the trading community. Cliff spent the first 20 years of his career building trading solutions for a wide variety of financial firms.

Richard Man, Sales Director - Asia Pacific, Fixnetix.
Richard is a sales veteran in capital markets technology with over 25 years’ experience in London, New York, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Beginning his career in market data at Telerate, his achievements include establishing BT Radianz as the de facto financial extranet in Asia Pacific and then growing Colt MarketPrizm to become the dominant broker neutral infrastructure provider in Asia Pacific. Since 2014, Richard has been involved with HFT IT infrastructure and for the last 16 months has been focused on low latency pre trade risk check systems. Richard has a BSc in Biological Sciences and is based in Tokyo with his wife and two boys.

James Morris, Head of Execution, Optiver APAC.
James has over ten years of experience leading high performing teams across multiple low latency trading domains. These domains include, low latency networking teams, technical research teams and application engineer teams. Most recently, James and his Execution team are delivering world class FGPA solutions into the Optiver trading environment. James is passionate about providing solutions to the challenges of integrating, managing and supporting these platforms in the organization and the broader trading environment.

Miguel Ortega, Head of Market Data, Deutsche Bank Securities Tokyo.
Since 2008, Miguel has been responsible for the design, implementation, and support of Deutsche Bank's market data infrastructure and market data commercial management in Asia. Miguel started his career at Reuters in Mexico in 1995 in charge of technical operations for the country. He transferred to Reuters New York in 1999 as a senior systems engineer in charge of Reuters and TIBCO product integration. From 2002 he worked for Barclays Capital in New York in charge of all market data infrastructure and distribution platforms for the region. In 2007 he was a managing consultant with STAC.

Mutema Pittman, Director of Enterprise Business Division, Programmable Solutions Group, Intel.
Mutema is responsible for the Enterprise business segment in the Intel Programmable Solutions Group (PSG) business division. Mutema’s responsibilities include creating and executing strategies and business plans to drive success with end customers in the enterprise market, and strong collaboration with internal and external groups focusing on Programmable Acceleration Cards, solution workloads, and channels to reach enterprise customers. Mutema joined PSG (formerly Altera) in 2010 via the acquisition of Avalon Microelectronics. He has held previous roles in engineering design and management during that time.

Vahan Sardaryan, Co-Founder and CEO, LDA Technologies.
Vahan is a Co-Founder and the CEO at LDA Technologies, a known provider of leading high-performance FPGA-based networking products. Vahan’s experience in software design goes back 20 years and encompasses various fields such as high-performance networking, information security, realtime systems and such. He has been involved in electronic trading industry for over 12 years, 8 years of which was dedicated to HFT companies’ needs. Vahan holds a PhD degree equivalent in Applied Mathematics and is an avid chess player.

Paul Serrano, Chief Evangelist, APJ, Nutanix.
Paul has more than 40 years of experience encompassing executive management roles including CEO, CTO and multiple Vice President positions in the technology industry. He has extensive experience in product development/management, marketing, and business development within the networking, storage, compute and security industries. Prior to Nutanix he served as Sr. Director of Marketing for Riverbed Technology and VP of Marketing APAC for Secure Computing. He has held senior positions at Bell Laboratories, Juniper, Netscreen, the United States Air Force and a decade with Wall street financial firms including JP Morgan, HSBC and Citibank.

Dr David Snowdon, Director of Engineering, Arista.
David was co-founder and CTO at Metamako, which got acquired by Arista in 2018. Prior to founding Metamako, David gained a wealth of experience working in and for electronic trading firms, optimising their network structures, network performance, and building performance hardware, gateware and software. He has a PhD in Operating Systems from the University of NSW, Australia, looking at the effect of frequency scaling on power and energy usage. Outside of work, David spends time designing, building and racing high-performance solar powered cars in international events and formerly held the Guinness record for the world’s fastest solar powered vehicle.

Dave Weber, Wall Street CTO & Director, Lenovo.
Dave Weber is the director of Lenovo's global financial services industry initiatives and Wall Street CTO. Dave is focused on server-based low latency, high performance, analytics and cloud technologies, and works with financial markets clients to provide solutions, with partners to build an ecosystem, and with Lenovo Research and Development to influence future products. Dave also leads the Lenovo relationship with STAC®, where Lenovo has worked closely with our partners to publish numerous world record benchmark results.

Derek Yeung, Data Architect, HKEX.
Derek has over 15 years of experience in the Financial Services industry, building and operating Data Platforms and Analytics solutions for major banks across the globe. Derek currently leads the data architecture and engineering functions in HKEX. Prior to HKEX, Derek was the Head of Platform Engineering in Nordea, responsible for building out the next generation data platform and delivering various Big Data projects in retail banking, transactional banking, Asset Management, regulatory reporting and compliance area. Prior to Nordea, Derek has held various leadership role in Data Engineering and Architecture at HSBC.
